What is a lyra, you may wonder? A lyra, also known as an aerial hoop, is a round metal hoop suspended in the air on which we can sit, spin, twist and maneuver our bodies to create fun shapes and lines all while getting a great workout! Bring yourself back to your childhood when swinging on the monkey bars at the playground eased away all the worries of the world, and then equate lyra to that as the adult version! It will increase your upper body and core strength and improve all-over flexibility.
What can I expect from this intro workshop?
- Group warmup and light stretch
- Become familiar with the dynamics of the lyra, learn the essential hand grips, and practice a couple of ways to mount (get in to) and dismount (get out of) the lyra
- Learn 4-6 individual poses and then link them together in various ways
- Group cool down and stretching
No experience necessary for this workshop! It's perfect for the complete beginner. Come out and play!
**Please wear tight-fitting pants or leggings and a comfortable top, and, if you have them, also bring leg warmers or above-the-knee socks to add extra layers of fabric behind the knees. If you have workout or biking gloves, you may also wish to bring these until your hands get accustomed to the grip on the lyra.
