The most common request in yoga class is hip openers. Since the majority of us sit for most of the day, the hip flexors are constantly being shortened and the hip rotators are constantly becoming tighter. The practice of opening the hips will leave you feeling lighter, more open, and will also assist in alleviating back pain and of course hip pain. On an energetic level, it is believed that we hold a lot of negative emotions and trauma in our hips which we are able to release when opening the hips. This opening allows space to create positive energy to improve our emotional state and our relationships.
The essence of Yin Yoga is surrender. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to experience longer holds of 5-10 minutes per posture with a focus on the hips. The holding of the postures allows the connective tissue that surrounds the joints to lengthen and increase its elasticity. The elasticity of our connective tissue diminishes with physical activity and aging, which makes Yin essential for injury prevention and joint health. Yin Yoga restores energy and calms the nervous system.
